Here at Sweet Sweat, we care deeply about the future of our planet and understand that we must do our part in preserving it.
Besides encouraging lovers of Sweet Sweat products to use our products for the entirety of their lifespan (we recommend using our Waist Trimmer for 6-8 months before replacing it, for example), there are a host of other ways we like to be mindful of our environmental impact.
Caring for our environment has a direct impact on our health, including decreased availability of clean air and drinking water sources as a result of pollution1. So, as wellness-minded people, being mindful of our carbon footprints mean we can continue embracing the Sport of Life and all the benefits that having a relationship with nature offers.
There are so many ways to help the planet, including seeking out alternatives to the plastic items we rely on. In honor of National Recycling Day, here are six, simple ways to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle:
1. Toothbrushes → Bamboo Toothbrushes
Toothbrushes made of bamboo, as opposed to plastic, are an easy swap to make in your daily hygiene routine. You can pick up these wooden toothbrushes now at many stores like Target, Walmart, or Amazon.
Once you’re ready for a new one, you can simply remove the toothbrush’s bristles, recycle them and allow the bamboo to biodegrade or compost, naturally.
2. Shampoo → Solid Shampoo Bars
Think about how many shampoo bottles you go through each year and how much plastic is wasted as a result. An easy, better-quality switch can be made by opting for solid, shampoo bars. These bars can typically be found at your local farmer’s market or artisan store and are offered in a variety of scents that leave your hair smooth and shiny. Now, you can decrease your footprint without compromising self-care.
3. Straws → Stainless Steel/Glass/Bamboo Straw
This is one of the easiest ways to reduce plastic. And trust us, it makes a huge difference! Disliking paper straws is no longer an excuse because stainless steel straws, glass straws, and bamboo straws are easily available.
Unlike plastic straws, these alternatives can be used over and over again, sustainably.
4. Water Bottles → Reusable Water Bottle
Reducing plastic use and recycling is an especially important way to reduce global emissions1. Thankfully, if you’re still purchasing plastic water bottles during your grocery trips, there are hundreds of insulated reusable bottle options available on the market that keep your beverages cold (or hot).
5. Shopping Bags → Reusable Non-Plastic Bags
One fool-proof way to limit plastic temptation is to keep a reusable bag handy when you’re on the go. If you don’t own any reusable totes, saving and re-using old grocery bags from previous trips to the store, can also work.
6. Beauty Products → DIY + Reusable Non-Plastic Containers
Most beauty products like scrubs, lotions & serums come in a small plastic container, which can cause quite a bit of plastic waste with regular use and re-purchasing. If you’re feeling crafty, we encourage you to explore making your beauty products at home and storing them in glass containers.
